Remembrance Day Service

Brierley School pupils represented our children and staff at the Remembrance Day service at St Luke’s, Grimethorpe. Along with Miss Simpson and the support of Father Peter and Donna the children participated in this special service. It also provided a fitting culmination to our collective worship theme for the week which was ‘remembering and forgiving’. The children were once again outstanding in representing our school within the community, a special thank you to all of them!

Please have a look at Father Peter’s letter to confirm how good they all were!

Robin Hood’s Bay: a picture diary of our visit this year

Tuesday

Our first day saw us climb to the very top of Roseberry Topping, a place that Captain Cook used to visit as a child. The children found the going tough but they all succeeded and were very proud of their achievement. The views were fantastic but our packed lunch even better! After tea we went on a Treasure Hunt around Robin Hood’s Bay, look out for the picture of Sally who we helped celebrate her completion of the coast to coast walk.

Wednesday

After a hearty breakfast we headed for Runswick Bay for a spot of fossil hunting and seal spotting. Josh found a fantastic ammonite but unfortunately we didn’t see any seals.

Thursday

We travelled into Whitby to explore the sights and learn a little bit more about Captain Cook. We found out where Bram Stoker stayed and went up to the Abbey. We did a senses survey but the icing on the cake was the visit to the lifeboat station.

We were given special permission to board the lifeboat and look at all the equipment that is used when the boat is out at sea.

Friday

Having said goodbye to our rooms and hotel we journeyed south to explore the rock pools at Flambrough and have some fish and chips at the local chippy.

Our visit was fantastic and the children learnt so much about the history and geography of the North East coast line. Once again the children’s behaviour was exemplary and a credit to Brierley School!

Ofsted

In March 2011 our school received a visit from an HMI to look at the quality of teaching and learning in history. The inspector observed lessons, looked at children’s work and interviewed Mr Reed, the teachers and some of our children. By the end of the day Mr Kidd was very impressed by what he saw and he said that everything was outstanding!

The report can be seen on Ofsted's website.

Shafton ALC

As you will have all noticed the new senior school in Shafton is well underway and will soon be ready to receive Brierley children. Three pupils from Class FS recently took part in a DVD to promote the links between Willowgarth and Priory Schools and identify the new identity of this Advanced Learning Centre. As a special treat and a way of saying thank you James, Zara and Keya were invited to have a look around the new school.

Updated : If you would like to watch our pupils in the promotional presentation for Shafton ALC then follow the link below. In the words of the production team the children were “truly inspirational”. Well done Keya, Zara and James!

See the pictures to have a glimpse of this soon to be ‘state of the art’ school and hear what some of our pupils think.
