We Are Readers And Writers

Autumn 

As readers, the children will be encouraged to read independently on a daily basis with emphasis on showing an understanding of the text by answering comprehension questions. The children will complete a star reader quiz using Accelarated Reader which will determine the level of reading book that they can choose from our school library. Before changing a read book, the children must complete and pass a quiz to show their understanding of the text.

As a class, the children will also be read to by an adult and will answer whole class reading questions that focus on vocabulary, inference and retrieval. 

Our class text this half term is The Nowhere Emporium, The Highwayman and The Snowman

The children will be writing their own poem, influenced by The Highwayman and a Christmas narrative linked to The Snowman.
